The nZEB concept - Energy efficient buildings

What is the nZEB standard?

Nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) - It is the building with energy consumption almost equal to zero with a very high energy performance, where the energy requirement from conventional sources is almost equal to zero or is very low and is covered, for the most part measure, with energy from renewable sources, including energy from renewable sources produced on site or nearby. CO2 emissions related to conventional energy consumption will not exceed 3 kg/CO2/sqm/year. The percentage of renewable energy as the primary source must increase from a minimum of 50% to 80% (100%) by 2050.

Legal framework

At the European level, Directives 2010/31/EU and its update, 2018/844/EU, are the main legal instruments regarding improving the energy efficiency of buildings.

The central element of these directives refers to the conditions that must be met by buildings whose energy consumption from conventional sources is close to zero. Starting with 2019, all public buildings will have to meet these conditions, and from 2021, all new buildings.

Taking into account culture, legislation and local climatic conditions, these directives do not have a uniform character, each country being responsible for developing its own standard regarding energy efficient buildings.

The role of heat-insulating joinery in achieving nZEB standards

Our range of PVC windows from the Elegant series actively participates, in the design of the building envelope, to ensure uniform thermal insulation and falls into the category of solutions that can help achieve nZEB standards in the long term.

The uniqueness of Deceuninck's approach to the new regulations for nZEB buildings is the broadening of the spectrum of sustainability: if the regulations for buildings with near-zero energy consumption refer expressly to energy consumption during the active period of the building's operation, Deceuninck treats windows and doors sustainably throughout their life cycle. Recycling a kg of PVC material requires up to 90% less energy consumption than the production of one kg of new PVC. As a founding member of the VinylPlus association, Deceuninck has a voluntary and proactive contribution, being an avant-garde and responsible producer, who designs new rules and standards in the profile industry.

The use of thermal insulation joinery from the Elegant series satisfies the A2 standard of energy efficient buildings with almost zero consumption, regardless of whether they are renovated buildings or new buildings. Energy saving, durability, wide stylistic palette make their purchase a responsible investment.
